Voice Our Concern
Human Rights Education publications
for Second Level Students
The Voice Our Concern Film and Photography Workbook; A Resource for Second Level Students is a creative and practical new resource from Amnesty International's Human Rights Education team. An attractive pack, it contains a manual and accompanying DVD and a set of 15 photographic cards. It is designed to complement the original Voice Our Concern module, yet the activities may also be used on a standalone basis for second level students of all ages.
What is most effective about this resource is that it features the voices of the young people themselves. Students from schools that participated in the Voice Our Concern programme worked with professional filmmakers and photographers, enabling the students to explore their concerns about human rights issues in the world in which they live. The resulting collaborative work is contained in this workbook, dividied into four workshops on film and four on photography. Each workshop is a standalone session and begins by exploring a human rights theme, ideally through the use of an activity or exercise from the original Voice Our Concern module. Workshop themes are varied and thought-provoking: refugee rights and the asylum process; the rights of people with disabilities; homelessness and domestic violence are all explored in some depth and accompanied by a comprehensive list of websites and other publications for further study. It is priced at 15 euro. To order, please e-mail voc@amnesty.ie or telephone 01-677 6361 or visit our on-line trading store.
